Mission of Democratic Belarus – The main objective of this Mission is to ensure better engagement of the Belarusian democratic structures with the EU institutions, other international organizations, governments and civil society of the Benelux and neighboring countries which support the democratic course for a new Belarus.

"The main objective of this Mission is to ensure better engagement of the Belarusian democratic structures with the EU institutions, other international organizations, governments and civil society of the Benelux and neighboring countries which support the democratic course for a new Belarus.
The Mission will promote the Belarusian national identity, in particular by assisting the democratic forces of Belarus including the United Transitional Cabinet, to achieve its goals of securing the independence and sovereignty of the Republic of Belarus and by representing the national interests on the international arena; by elaborating the solutions to the internal political crisis in Belarus and creating conditions for a free and fair election; by working out necessary decisions for the democratization of Belarus."

Day of Solidarity with Political Prisoners in Belarus

Viasna human rights center has designated May 21 as a Day of Solidarity with Political Prisoners in Belarus. This year will be the third anniversary of the death of political prisoner and activist Vitold Ashurak in Škloŭ colony No. 17. Since then, five more political prisoners have died in places of captivity: Mikalai Klimovich, Ales Pushkin, Vadzim Khrasko, Ihar Lednik, and Aliaksandr Kulinich. They were all united not only by political persecution against them, but also by the fact that they received untimely or substandard medical care in detention, as well as health problems, despite which they were imprisoned or sent to penal colonies. As of May 6, 2024, human rights defenders know of at least 254 political prisoners who are at particular risk behind bars. For some of them, every day in captivity is critical, and their health and even their lives depend on it. Also, many political prisoners have mental health problems during and after their imprisonment. Therefore, this year the theme of the Day of Political Prisoners in Belarus is the right to health and medical care in detention.
